As an only child, with non-outdoorsy parents, camp opened up a whole new world to me. I started attending Camp Horizons at age 8, and was a camper, CIT and counselor for 14 years. I came to work at Horizons right out of college, and have been here ever since as Registrar, Associate Director and now Director of Administration. My husband, Kenny, is the Facility Manager (I brought him to camp in college), and we have two children who are growing up at camp. I will celebrate 23 years at Camp Horizons this summer!
Growing up, camp helped me grow in self-confidence and independence, provided me with deep and lasting friendships with people from all over the world, gave me instant "sisters" that I always wanted, had genuine counselors who really cared about me, gave me a chance to be silly and not worry what others thought about me, and was full of endless new and fun activities. Some of my favorite memories are things we still do today at Camp Horizons: "Home in the Woods" campouts, outdoor cooking, campfires with s'mores, horseback riding, archery, wagon rides, outdoor adventure activities, swimming, skits and Talent Shows, silly games, and lots of singing. I'm one of those who got "camp-sick" during the school year, and eagerly tore a page off of my Camp Countdown calendar each day. I'm very happy to be raising my family at my childhood camp. I'm looking forward to the time, in a few short years, when my kids will attend Camp Horizons with the children of my old camp friends!
